The group of paintings was created by exploring the close, everyday
nature, looking for links between the now-blooming plant and the
ornament created and used for centuries.
Most of the paintings began during the walks. The basis of the
painting – combinations of colors – I look first of all, observing the
changing roadside or the color spots “protruding” in the distance. A
next step is a form. And in this exhibition, a common motif in the
painting is a plant, a grassland. It seems thoughtless, temporary,
annual. Its temporality is ironic because the motif of the plant is
rooted in tradition, folklore, songs, fabrics, window shutters, chests,
and remains. While researching the tangle of meadow grasses, I feel that
I resume the search and experiment with the themes “Baltic Signs”, “To
Density” and “Arithmetics” – to understand and feel how ancient signs of
Baltic and other cultures were created.
The year 2021 was dedicated to the memory of our archaeologist Marija
Gimbutienė and her work. The amazing discovery is one of many signs
that a community based on peace has prevailed in Europe for many years.
Spiritual vitality and continuity were ensured by women, but the order
was matristic – neither sex strived to overshadow the other. (Insight of
Dr. Inga Merkytė) It was a community striving for abundance and beauty,
leaving a lot of ornaments, which is basically a good wish for someone
who will see that ornament.
The year 2022 began as a year of the war. I felt that painting helps
and rescues more than ever because when I work hard, the depressing
thoughts go away for a while.
In this exhibition, you will find paintings with obvious traces of
ornament, but there are also “vegetative” in which I failed to capture
the ornament, but it was fun to try.
